Itinerary
The mountain ridge forms a horseshoe around upper edges of the Larsbreen glacier, with a huge rock balancing on the highest point of the ridge itself. Characteristic and towering 850 meters above sea level, it is no wonder why this mountain got its folklore name Trollsteinen (the Troll Rock).
With solid snowshoes (if the terrain demands it) and a headlamp in the dark, we head towards Larsbreen and the top of the glacier before taking a well-deserved break with an expedition lunch.
We enjoy the silence of our natural surroundings, keep a steady pace allthewhile exposed to the elements as we hike upwards. Up on the ridge itself and the mountain top of Trollsteinen, the view is absolutely fantastic with its unique scene of contours across the arctic landscape depending on the time of year and exposure to sunlight.
We return the same way down the glacier, and enjoy an area that is protected from motor traffic meaning complete peace and quiet.
