Itinerary
Join us on a trip up the challenging Nordenskiöldfjellet. Perhaps we will reach the highest point if weather and road conditions permit. We start the trip in Longyearbyen, and cross moraine landscapes with interesting historical fossils and glacier systems until we reach the last climb before we reach the top of Nordenskiöldfjellet.
When we get big snowmelt during high summer, we use a slightly longer route via Platåfjellet.
In the summer, we find fantastically beautiful polygonal ground up on the mountain plain in the direction of Nordenskiöldfjellet. This is a collective term for loose surface structures with geometric patterns. The structures are formed by freezing and thawing of the upper layers of the permafrost.
Along the way, we take a proper break with an expedition lunch and enjoy the silence and nature. On the mountain ridge and at the top itself, the view is fantastic.
On the way back, we pick up rubbish that appears on our way. SWE focuses on sustainability and nature conservation.
