Ski Touring to Nordenskiöldfjellet
April - May
Embark on a full-day ski touring adventure to Nordenskiöld Peak, the highest mountain near Longyearbyen at 1,050 meters above sea level. This is a must-do ski tour on Svalbard, combining steady ascents, spectacular views, and skiing in one of the wordls most exotic locations for ski touring.
The day begins with a pick-up from your hotel. At our expedition base, your guide provides a detailed safety briefing and goes through the plan before we head out. After a short drive to the trailhead, we put on skis and start the climb.
Early in the ascent we gain about 350 meters to reach the first mountain plateau. The route then continues across moraine terrain before we step onto the glacier. From here, it’s another 550 meters of climbing towards the top as we traverse upwards to the ridge and tackle the final stretch to the summit. If conditions allow, we stand on the very peak of Nordenskiöld, rewarded with panoramic views over endless glaciers and rugged mountains.
Recharged after lunch, we point our skis downhill into a vast, treeless Arctic landscape – a long, flowing run through snow that is often untouched.
This is a challenging tour designed for experienced ski tourers seeking a full day in Svalbard’s mountains.
This tour can also be booked as a private tour – price per guide is 10,000 NOK
