Frozen Summit - Hike to Trollsteinen and Ice Cave
Season: November - May
This is our longest hike during the winter season—a full-day adventure that takes you to the summit of Trollsteinen and into a glacier ice cave on the way back down. It’s the perfect tour for those looking for a physical challenge and a truly memorable experience.
We begin by hiking through a snow-covered moraine valley, gradually gaining altitude - about 750 meters in total. As we move higher, the views begin to open up, and the vastness of the Arctic becomes more and more apparent. After crossing the glacier, we follow a narrow ridge leading to the top of Trollsteinen, which rises 850 meters above sea level. Your guide will ensure a safe route and assist where needed. At the summit, we pause to take in the stillness, the wide views, and the feeling of being far from everything.
On the way down, we make a stop at the ice cave—formed by meltwater in summer and now frozen into place. Equipped with helmets and headlamps, we step into winding passages inside the glacier. It’s quiet, the air is milder than expected, and the ice formations are ever-changing from year to year.
Lunch inside a glacier? That’s not something you do every day.
Back outside, we continue the hike down. After a full day in the mountains, we return to town – tired, content, and glad we made the journey.
