Foxfonna Wilderness Hike

Foxfonna Wilderness Hike

kr1,790.00Price
  • Season: July - September

We start by driving into the wide Advent Valley. Already here, the guide sets the scene with stories about the distinctive landscape we are entering. Around us, mountains with broad plateaus rise, and the valley opens up on a scale that’s hard to grasp. We continue up the mountainside along the old road leading to what was Longyearbyen’s last active coal mine. The higher we get, the wider the view becomes – with mountains stretching out toward the horizon, giving a true sense of the Arctic wilderness.

We park the car and begin the hike towards Foxfonna – a glacier resting on the mountain Breinosa. The first part of the walk is uphill, gaining around 250 vertical meters, before the terrain levels out and the view expands. Up here, we take a well-deserved break and enjoy lunch under the open sky. Along the way, we keep an eye out for Arctic wildlife such as arctic foxes, Svalbard ptarmigans, and other species adapted to this environment.

If time allows, we may make a few  stops in Advent Valley on the way back to Longyearbyen.

This tour is perfect for those who enjoy walking in open terrain and want to experience both tranquility and sweeping views. This is the perfect trip to get out of town. Many choose this hike to explore another area than the mountains closer to town.

In winter, we often use snowshoes to move through the snow.
