Arctic Summer
This is when we explore mountains and fjords – and with the sun shining around the clock, the Arctic landscape is teeming with life.
The Arctic summer, when the sun stays high in the sky around the clock, is when nature truly comes to life. Birds are nesting, flowers cover the tundra, and whales migrate into the fjords. This is the time to explore mountains and fjords – we hike the peaks around Longyearbyen, walk on glaciers, and paddle kayaks between ice and open water. It’s also the season when we spend time at our wilderness camp on the far side of Isfjorden, where nature sets the pace.
When August arrives, the sun begins to set again and the light turns softer. The colors of the tundra shift to shades of yellow, red, and brown, and a calm settles over the Arctic. We keep exploring – on foot and by kayak – and for the most adventurous, this is when the long expeditions on land and water begin. In September and October, temperatures start to drop again, and the first snow dusts the mountain tops.
