HIKE: Exploring the ice cave
Join us for a wonderful trip inside the glacier! You will find a magical world: ice tunnels that have been shaped during the summertime by the melting of ice and snow.
The trip will start from the upper part of town, Nybyen, and we will start to hike up to the Lars glacier.
After hiking uphill for approx. Two hours and covering about 350 msl, we will reach the entrance of the cave. Before entering it, we will dress up with safety equipment and headlamps.
The visit in the ice cave will start; we will discover halls, tight passages and thick layers of ice crystals. The guide will show you the layers of the glacier and will bring you to know all the caves secrets.
As our groups are international, our tours are guided in English.
This trip is suitable for:
Age limit: 12 years
The hike is moderately difficult because of the mountain hike in cold weather and the possible crawling in the cave; this trip does not really fit for guests who have serious back problems, claustrophobia, or poor physical shape.
What to bring/wear:
Solid warm hiking boots, extra warm clothing, drinking water (in thermos as this can easily freeze to ice), and a backpack with extra space for equipment given by the guide (spikes, helmet and headlamp).
If you do not have warm boots, you can rent a pair for NOK 100,-
In the ice cave we will serve hot drinks and cookies. Bring extra food if needed.
